Hyundai unveiled a bold new electric vehicle, the Concept THREE EV, on Tuesday. The new EV concept stole the spotlight with a striking new design, hinting at what’s coming in the Hyundai IONIQ 3.

The Hyundai Concept THREE will launch as the IONIQ 3

We’ve been waiting for this for months now. Hyundai finally unveiled the Concept THREE at the Munich Motor Show, the first compact EV from its IONIQ family.

The new concept will launch as the IONIQ 3, which will enter production in the first half of 2026 at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Turkey.

Hyundai said the Concept THREE signals its expansion into a new vehicle category to complement its current midsize and larger electric models like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9. The new EV concept sets the tone for Hyundai’s next chapter of design and tech.

The new design theme, “Art of Steel,” is a bold new look from the Hyundai models we are accustomed to. Hyundai said the new look is inspired by advanced steel technologies.

Hyundai’s current EVs already have a sleek design compared to its past models, but the Concept Three takes it to a new level.

The Aero Hatch profile is “a new typology that reimagines the compact EV silhouette,” according to Hyundai. Meanwhile, the lemon-tinted glass and matching wheels make it stand out even more.

And then, Hyundai added a few of its signature design elements, such as Parametric Pixel lights at the front and rear.

On the inside, the Concept THREE features a customizable space, or “Bring Your Own Lifestyle (BYOL),” as Hyundai calls it.

The custom-tailored interior design offers “a sense of serenity and clarity,” with sustainable materials. It also has “hidden surprises” throughout, including Mr Pix, a symbolic character Hyundai created.

Measuring 4,287 mm in length, 1,940 mm in width, and 1,428 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,722 mm, the Concept Three is about the size of the Volkswagen ID.3 and Kia EV3.

The IONIQ 3 will sit between the Inster EV and Kona Electric as Hyundai expands its European lineup. Although final prices, range, and other specs will be revealed closer to launch, the IONIQ 3 is expected to be based on the E-GMP platform.

Similar to the Kia EV3, it will likely be offered with 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh battery packs. The former provides a WLTP range of 260 miles, while the latter is rated with a range of 365 miles.

Given the Kona Electric starts at £34,995 ($47,000) in the UK, the Hyundai IONIQ 3 will likely be priced closer to £25,000 ($33,700), like the Kia EV2. It’s set to go into production early next year.

What do you think of the Concept Three? Do you like Hyundai’s new style? The IONIQ 3 may look a little different in production form, but it will likely arrive with a similar bold new design. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
