Kia announced prices for the 2026 Niro EV. Although it’s about the same price as the outgoing model, the Niro is starting to look a little overpriced compared to some of the new EVs arriving.
2026 Kia Niro EV prices and driving range by trim
After Kia unveiled the “new Niro” in South Korea, omitting the EV version, we were worried the electric crossover was on the chopping block.
It won’t be this year. Kia announced prices for the 2026 Niro EV on Monday, starting at $39,700. Like the outgoing model, the 2026 Kia Niro EV is available in two trims: Wind and Wave, both providing an electric range of up to 253 miles.
Although it’s only $100 more than last year, the 2026 Kia Niro EV might struggle to compete with new electric models hitting the market this year.
On the inside, the Niro EV features dual 10.25″ driver cluster and infotainment screens, a wireless phone charger, and physical buttons on the steering wheel to control various functions.
The Niro has always been among the most affordable EVs in the US, starting at around $40,000. In 2026, several new EVs will be available for less with more electric driving range.
Upgrading to the Wave trim, starting at $44,700, adds a premium Harman Kardon audio system, a power sunroof with sunshade, and gloss-black detailing.
The Chevy Bolt and Nissan LEAF are making a comeback this year, both starting under $30,000. The 2026 Nissan LEAF starts at $29,990 with a driving range of up to 303 miles. The 2027 Chevy Bolt, on the other hand, starts at $28,995 with 255 miles of range. Although the Niro is slightly bigger than both, it’s not by much anymore.

Even the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is cheaper, starting at just $35,000. The standard range version offers 245 miles of range, while upgrading to the extended range model with 318 miles of range will cost you $37,500, which is still cheaper than the Niro.
And that’s just a few. Toyota’s new 2026 bZ electric SUV starts at $34,900. Later this year, it will launch the C-HR, which will sit below the bZ with starting prices around $30,000 to $40,000.
