Thousands of redundancies are to start this week as the failed retailer Wilko even though parts of the company could remain.
Wilko’s Worksop and Newport warehouses are due to start the redundancy process this week and around 1,296 people work at the two sites, but it is not yet clear how many workers will be affected.
It has been reported that administrators who work for PwC could still do a deal as potential rescuers led by Doug Putman who took over HMV has put in a bid.
The bid that Putman has put in to the administrators could save around 300 out of the 400 Wilko shops saving, potentially around 8,000 jobs out of the 12,500 who were previously employed.
Over the weekend the Sunday Times reported that the deal led by Putman has won the backing from the Pensions Protection Fund.
