The new Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) now delivers up to 150 km (93 miles) of electric range, 58% more than the outgoing version.
Toyota bumps up electric range in the new RAV4 PHEV
The RAV4 was once again Toyota’s top-selling vehicle in 2025, edging out the Tesla Model Y as the world’s best-selling car.
After launching the new RAV4 plug-in hybrid on Thursday, Toyota said the SUV has been “reborn” with an all-new PHEV system.
The new-generation PHEV setup delivers “world-leading energy efficiency,” Toyota claimed. With a new large-capacity battery and added SiC semiconductors, the RAV4 now offers about 150 km (93 miles) of electric range. That’s a 58% increase from the outgoing version, with 95 km (59 miles) EV range.
Thanks to its electric power, the all-new Toyota RAV4 PHEV delivers a maximum output of 242 kW (329 PS/324 hp).
Although it may not seem like much compared to most all-electric vehicles achieving over 300 miles of range nowadays, it’s still plenty for an average commute.
It can also be used as a mobile power source, with a built-in 100V external power socket that delivers up to 1,500W.
According to Toyota, the new RAV4 can provide electricity for about a week at a 400W load when Power Supply Time Priority Mode is active.
Toyota also introduced a new GR Sport trim with redesigned front and rear bumpers, a lower stance, a fine-tuned suspension, and GR Performance Dampers.
The new RAV4 PHEV is priced from 6 million yen ($38,700), while upgrading to the GR Sport trim costs 6.3 million yen ($40,700).
Toyota said it will launch the new model in Japan on March 9, 2026, adding to the hybrid RAV4 that arrived in December 2025. Following its launch in Japan, Toyota will introduce the new RAV4 PHEV in Europe and the US this Spring.
The RAV plug-in hybrid will add another electrified option to Toyota’s US lineup, which now includes four all-electric SUVs, including the Highlander EV set to go on sale later this year.
After upgrading its first electric SUV, the bZ (formerly the bZ4X), Toyota launched the smaller 2026 C-HR and off-road bZ Woodland EVs. Both are set to hit dealerships in March.
