The US President who is at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland has told reporters that the London Mayor is a “nasty person” whilst with Sir Keir Starmer.
The outspoken Donald Trump said that Khan has “done a terrible job” and praised the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage as a “friend.”
Speaking about Khan the US President said, “I’m not a fan of your mayor. I think he’s done a terrible job, the Mayor of London… a nasty person.”
The Prime Minister said in response, “He’s a friend of mine, actually.
Trump appears to dismiss Starmer’s comment and went on to say, “I think he’s done a terrible job. But I would certainly visit London.”
Trump said that Farage is a “friend” and he quickly chimed that Starmer is also a friend and said even thought the Reform UK leader and the Prime Minister are political rivals he said that “they’re both good men.”
The US President added, “Nigel has done very well. He’s a friend of mine, and Keir is a friend of mine.”
Starmer said, “We like each other, we respect each other, we get on, and we’ve both got a great love of our countries, of our families, and therefore, there’s a huge amount that we have already achieved, actually, together and will achieve as we go forward, leading our respective countries.”
Speaking about the state visit Starmer said it will be “unprecedented and very special,” this has “many elements … that have never been seen before.”
As far as Parliament, if (Starmer) wants me to speak in Parliament, I’ll do it,” President Trump said.
“But it doesn’t have to be then, it could be some other time. Maybe we should save it for another time.”
Reporters asked Trump over his thoughts over the UK government’s “new powers to censor” his Truth Social platform, he said, “I don’t think he’s going to censor my site because I say only good things.”
Trump then jokingly asked Starmer, “please uncensor my site,” the Prime Minister said “we’re not censoring anyone,” he added, “We’ve got measures which are there to protect children … from sites like suicide sites”.
(It’s) nothing about censoring free speech,” Starmer added.
“Free speech in this country has been for a very long time … we’re very proud of it … I don’t see that as a free speech issue.”
“I cannot imagine him censoring Truth Social,” Trump added.
It’s been a very big success… I only say good things about him and his country so if they censor me then you’re making a mistake.”
