The US President has bragged that many countries are “kissing my ass” who are “dying to make a deal” to have the tariffs dropped.
Before the tariffs kicked in at 5am UK time, Donald Trump bragged that some countries are begging whilst he was at a Republican event in Washington.
Trump claimed, “These countries are calling me up, kissing my ass… they are dying to make a deal.”
He added that countries are saying, “Please, please, sir, make a deal. I’ll do anything.”
The controversial US President continued, “I know what the hell I’m doing. I know what I’m doing, and you know what I’m doing too.
“I’m the only one that would have done the tariffs, because everybody was afraid. They were afraid of being criticised.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed on Tuesday evening that around 70 countries have contacted Washington to do deals over the tariffs and said the phones “have been ringing off the hook.”
Around 60 countries have been affected by the US tariffs with China facing 104% on imports, Vietnam has been hit with 46%, Thailand 36%, Japan 24% and the European Union 20% and the UK has been slapped with 25% on automotive imports and a 10% levy on other goods being imported to America.
