Tuesday’s big stock stories: What’s likely to move the market in the next trading session

Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching as the Dow Industrials slid more than 970 points and what’s on the radar for the next session. Tesla Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company reports after the bell Tuesday. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives called this a “code red situation” if he stays with the government and doesn’t turn more of his attention back to Tesla . Ives is still bullish with a $315 target on this $227.50 stock. Tesla is 53% from the December high. The stock is down 46% over the past three months, and it has fallen 19.5% since President Donald Trump rolled out his “reciprocal” tariffs on April 2. CNBC TV’s Phil LeBeau will have the numbers and the reaction Tuesday on ” Closing Bell: Overtime ” and ” Fast Money .” TSLA 3M mountain Tesla shares over the past three months Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon will be on ” Squawk Box ” with CNBC TV’s Becky Quick Tuesday in the 7 a.m. hour ET. Goldman Sachs shares are off 25% from the Feb. 18 high. Since Inauguration Day, the stock is down about 20%. Chevron CEO Mike Wirth will also be on “Squawk Box” with Becky Quick. Chevron is down 11% from the March 26 high. That’s a long way down in a short time. Shares are down 19.7% since the April 2 tariff announcement. CVX 3M mountain Chevron shares in the past three months The world beyond the U.S. Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, will be on in the 10 a.m. hour Tuesday with CNBC TV’s Sara Eisen. She’s sure to give us a perspective of the European and global economy. The iShares Europe ETF (IEV) is 5.5% from the March 19 high. In the last three months, the ETF is up 5%, compared to the nearly 15% decline for the SPDR S & P 500 ETF (SPY) over the same period. The Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) is down 17.5% in three months. The iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF (EZU) is up 5.7% over the past three months. The Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US ETF (VEU) is up 1.15% in three months. Defense company earnings are on deck Three big names in the industry will report Tuesday morning. Lockheed Martin is down 9.5% over the past three months. Shares are off 26% from the Oct. 21 high. Northrop Grumman is up 5.3% in the past three months. The stock is down 4.4% from the Oct. 1 high. RTX is flat in three months. The stock is off 7.4% from the March 26 high. LMT 3M mountain Lockheed Martin in the past three months Gold Gold futures are up nearly 30% so far in 2025. They settled at a record on Monday and hit an intraday all-time high of $3,442.30. That’s its 24th record high this year. The VanEck Gold Miners ETF (GDX) is up 52% so far in 2025. It hit a new high Monday. John Ciampaglia, the CEO of Sprott Asset Management, told Melissa Lee of “Fast Money” that “gold is not designed to move this fast this far.” Sprott focuses on the precious metals market. Ciampaglia also said, “We’re starting to see some very chunky inflows into the trust.” He said it’s a product of anxiety over the trade war and global uncertainty. Biotech CNBC’s eagle-eyed stock man Tom Rotunno was watching the biotech names Monday. Beam Therapeutics was up 7.3% in the session. Shares are off 48% from the Feb. 18 high. Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals was up 7.5% Monday. It is down 60% from the July 2024 high. Sarepta was up 2.7%. Shares are down 68% from the June 21 high.
