The embassy confirmed that non-essential American personnel and their dependents have been instructed to depart from Jerusalem.

Officials stated that further restrictions on US government personnel in Israel could be implemented depending on how the security situation develops.

The U.S. Department of State has also advised American citizens in the country to consider leaving while commercial travel options are still available.

This warning follows assessments of potential escalation risks in the region. Authorities did not specify the exact nature of the threat but emphasised that the decision was made as a precaution.

On Friday, the embassy said the US government could put in place further restrictions on US personnel in Israel.

On February 27, 2026, the Department of State authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and family members of U.S. government personnel from Mission Israel due to safety risks.

Persons may wish to consider leaving Israel while commercial flights are available,” they said.

“Due to the ongoing security situation, we have taken the precautionary measure to temporarily withdraw UK staff from Iran,” the UK government’s foreign travel advice website said.

“Our embassy continues to operate remotely.”

The embassy’s statement indicated that emergency services would remain available for American citizens who need assistance. This advisory comes amid broader instability across parts of the Middle East, where diplomatic and military tensions have fluctuated in recent weeks.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told employees in an email that discussions with officials in Washington have now led to a decision authorising departures for those who wish to leave.

Huckabee said there “may be outbound flights over the coming days, there may not be”.

Officials stressed that travel guidance may change rapidly and urged U.S. nationals to monitor government updates.
