A Russian flagged shadow fleet vessel is sailing through the English Channel under a false name a day after US forces stormed a vessel in the Atlantic on Wednesday.
The vessel was sanctioned under the name of Tia in August 2024, it then changed its name to Tavian and is now call Arcusat and is now Cameroon flagged, it is believed to be sailing to Russia.
Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden told Sky News, “The United States is a reliable ally.
“We believe that to be the case, we see that every day.
“But we also know the world is changing, and we’ve got to step up and Europe’s got to step up.
“And actually, President Trump – he may have his own style – he’s not the first US president to say that.
“And I think the thing that we’ve really got to understand about this new world is that hard and soft power have to go together, and you have to have the capability to exercise both.”
Speaking about the storming of the Russian flagged Marinera on Wednesday McFadden said that the UK is “very happy” to be involved with such operations.
He said, “I don’t think we should think that we’ve only been taking action against shadow fleets starting yesterday.
“it was a very high profile operation.”
