Russian airports were forced to impose “restrictions” following Ukraine’s largest ever drone attack on the country which also closed Moscow’s airport late on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.

The Russian Defence Ministry claims to have destroyed 524 Ukrainian drones which is the largest ever attack on Russian soil since the war started on 24 February 2022.

Moscow’s Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Vnukovo airports, including Kirov, Yaroslavl, Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod cities and other airports across Russia also reported severe disruption.

Artyom Korenyako, a spokesperson for Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency said, “The restrictions were imposed to ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights,” which disrupted hundreds of Aeroflot, S7 and Pobeda flights.

Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) reported, “Dozens of flights have been postponed at Domodedovo Airport. A similar situation is observed at other airports in Moscow and the regions of Russia.”

Russia’s Association of Tour Operators said on Wednesday that at least 60,000 passengers were delayed or faced cancellations amid Ukraine’s massive drone attack.

The Moscow Times reported the company said, “Due to the peculiarities of airlines’ schedule planning, these delays and cancellations will not be the end of it: planes that did not arrive at their destination on time will be late for other flights as well.”

This week the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Medvedev has warned that should Ukraine attack Russia during Vladimir Putin’s “three-day truce” there will be an “adequate response.”

Scenes of chaos and drunken violence all over Russia today as over 350 flights are grounded or canceled due to drone attacks. Airports across Russia, including Moscow’s are shut down, leaving at least 60,000 passengers and aircraft stranded.

Putin announced the three-day ceasefire on 28 April so Russia can enjoy their Victory Day parade in Moscow on 9 May and it is thought there could be around 20 world leaders attending.

Peskov said, “the relevant instructions have been given by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief,” he then warned if Ukraine does not obey Putin’s demand there will be an instant and a quick response.

Peskov added, “The fire will be stopped, but if there is no reciprocity from the Kyiv regime and attempts to strike our positions or our facilities continue, then an adequate response will be given immediately.”

The Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, gave a nuclear warning saying that if Ukraine attacks Moscow on 9 May then “nobody will be able to guarantee Kyiv will live to see May 10.”
