The United Nations human rights chief has said on Saturday that he is “disgusted” as there is a “sharp rise in hatred globally” against Jews and Muslims since the Israel and Hamas war started exactly four weeks ago.

Volker Turk said that cases of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and hate-speech, both online and offline has “multiplied” since 7 October.

Turk said globally “Islamophobic and anti-Semitic harassment, attacks and hate speech have multiplied, including in the context of protests relating to the conflict.”

The United Nations high commissioner for human rights slammed political leaders over their “inflammatory, toxic and hateful rhetoric.”

Turkey has ‘written off’ the Israeli Prime Minister as he is ‘no longer someone we can talk to’

He said that there is a “torrent of hateful language being used, including on social media, is abhorrent.”

Turk added, “International human rights law is clear on this. Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence is prohibited.”

A top United Nations human rights official called for the effective end to the state of Israel and has resigned over Israel’s “text-book case of genocide” happening to Palestinian in the Gaza Strip.

The UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights official Craig Mokhiber said in a public letter on 28 October that at the time of him writing there is a “moment of great anguish” as the world is seeing “genocide unfolding before our eyes.”

The letter was addressed to Turk, the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights saying in a carefully worded statement, “The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase, toward the expedited destruction of the last remnants of indigenous Palestinian life.

“This is a text-book case of genocide.”

The former human rights official then effectively called for the end of the state if Israel by the “dismantling of the deeply racist” country.

He added, “We must support the establishment of a single, democratic secular state in all of historic Palestine, with equal rights for Christians, Muslims, and Jews.

“and, therefore, the dismantling of the deeply racist, settler-colonial project and an end to apartheid across the land.”
