Urban Arrow’s new FamilyNext Pro e-bike is here to finally replace your second car

If you’ve ever thought, “I could totally ditch the second car if I just had the right e-bike,” then Urban Arrow may have just dropped your dream machine. The Dutch cargo bike powerhouse has launched its newest model, the FamilyNext Pro, in North America – and it’s easily one of the most impressive family-focused electric bikes I’ve seen hit the market.

Urban Arrow has been making high-end electric cargo bikes for over a decade, and the FamilyNext Pro represents a serious evolution of its flagship Family model.

It’s built from the ground up for hauling kids, groceries, backpacks, babies… you name it. With a 550 lb (250 kg) total weight capacity and a front box that can carry 275 pounds (125 kg), this is more minivan than bicycle (except it cuts through city traffic and doesn’t burn gas).

Under the hood, the FamilyNext Pro is powered by Bosch’s Cargo Line Smart System motor, offering 85Nm of torque and Class 1 pedal assist up to 20 mph (32 km/h). A 545 Wh battery delivers around 31 miles (50 km) of range, depending on weight and terrain, and smart features like adaptive Auto and Cargo modes help keep the ride smooth whether you’re hauling toddlers or groceries uphill in a headwind.

It also supports Bosch’s optional ConnectModule for GPS tracking, anti-theft alerts, and motor locking, which is a great peace-of-mind upgrade for city riders.

Urban Arrow calls this “the smarter way to move through the city,” though it’s also a pretty pricey way. At $8,999 in the US (or $12,499 in Canada), it’s a serious investment, though this isn’t a toy. It’s designed to be a genuine car replacement for a growing number of families who want to ditch traffic, skip parking stress, and add a little fun to the morning school run.

With the FamilyNext Pro, Urban Arrow looks like they aren’t just refining the family cargo bike, they’re redefining it in North America based on designs that have already proven popular and effective in Europe. And for a growing number of riders, that second car might finally be the one staying parked for good.
