The White House has said on Sunday that Israel must do all it can to protect innocent people who are in the Gaza Strip.
The US are calling on Israel “to distinguish between Hamas” and civilians who are caught up in the ongoing conflict.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on CNN, “There is a burden, as I said before and as the president has said, on Israel to take the necessary steps to distinguish between Hamas, who does not represent the Palestinian people, and innocent Palestinian civilians.”

He said that President Joe Biden will speak with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ensure Palestinian civilians are protected from military strikes.
Sullivan was asked if there was any “daylight” between the two allies, he told CBS’ Face the Nation, “We talk candidly, we talked directly, we share our views and an unvarnished way and we will continue to do that.
“But sitting here in public, I will just say that the United States is going to make its principles and propositions absolutely clear, including the sanctity of innocent human life.
“And then we will continue to provide our advice to Israel in private.”
The Hamas ruled Health Ministry said on Sunday that more than 8,000 people have been killed in three weeks and one day in Gaza.
The Ministry told AFP, “The death toll linked to the Israeli aggression is past 8,000, half of whom are children,” this is up from 7,703 who were recorded as dead on Saturday.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned on Saturday of the “catastrophic consequences” of large-scale ground operations in Gaza.
He warned that there is the “potential for thousands more civilians to die” as Israel presses on with their ground, air and sea operation.
He raised the alarm of the consequences and echoed UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres comments made last week that Palestinians have been “subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation” by Israel.
