In September, Volkswagen will unveil the electric T-Cross at IAA Mobility, dubbed the ID.2X. CEO Thomas Schäfer confirmed the mini electric SUV’s name on Thursday, which is expected to go in 2026 starting at around £25,000 ($31,000).

Volkswagen ID.2X will launch as the electric T-Cross

We got our first look at the small electric SUV in December 2023 after Volkswagen revealed a teaser image of the new model.

The SUV is the (slightly) bigger brother to the ID.2, Volkswagen’s low-cost electric Polo replacement. Now, we are learning that the model will officially go by the ID.2X and will serve as the electric replacement for the VW T-Cross.

In an upbeat LinkedIn post about the VW Brand’s “ambitious targets” for 2025, Schäfer confirmed that the “final model in the line-up,” following the CURPA Raval and Volkswagen ID.2, will be the ID.2X SUV.

The mini electric SUV will make its global debut at IAA Mobility in Munich this September. According to AutoCar, it’s expected to serve as an electric alternative to the VW T-Cross, a small crossover SUV.

Underpinned by the same entry-level MEB platform as the ID.2, the SUV model will be available with a single front motor (FWD) with two battery options, 38 or 58 kWh, good for up to about 280 miles driving range (450 km WLTP).

With ID.2 planned to hit the market at around £22,000 ($27,500), the SUV version is expected to arrive slightly higher at about £25,000 ($31,000).

Rehak said the smaller electric SUV will arrive in 2026, following the ID.2. Volkswagen claims the ID.2 is “spacious like a Golf and affordable like a Polo.” Head designer Andreas Mindt promises the production version is even better than the concept

Inside, the entry-level EV features an entirely redesigned theme with a 12.9″ infotainment and 10.9″ driver display setup.

VW previewed a fun new feature with different drive modes for the driver display, including “Classic” and “Vintage,” based on icons like the Beetle and Golf.

Schäfer said that with the ID.2X and three other affordable EVs launching, the “Brand Group Core is truly bringing its power to the road.” He added, “We’re on the right track – and now we’re stepping it up a gear.”

Earlier this week, Volkswagen teased an even smaller entry-level EV, the ID.EVERY1. Schäfer said the new ID.EVERY1 show car will be unveiled on March 5, adding, “We will give a first concrete preview of our new electric Volkswagen for around 20,000 euros.”
