  • Daily Housekeeping: A residential worker has to ensure that the house is neat and clean. They have to keep the home super clean and tidy so that nothing can spread dust, and they are cautious of clients’ health, especially the adults.
  • Personal Care:  personal care includes bathing, cleaning the clients regularly and making sure they are away from any sort of unhygienic things, which is also taken care of by a house support worker.
  • Cooking: Making each day’s meals is also a major responsibility of support workers. Residential support workers cook foods that their clients love to have.
  • Desh Washing: Care workers have to cook and also need to wash it off! Yes! It is one of the core works of the residential support worker. So, keeping the desh super shine responsibility goes to them as well.
  • Spending Quality Time: Quality time means spending time with family which has to ensure the care worker stays in the house with the adults and children. It means that despite not being part of the family, the care worker has to treat the client so well that it makes them feel that they are spending quality time with the care worker.
  • Give Regular Medicine: Another crucial responsibility of the support worker is to ensure that their clients are receiving medicine regularly. Keeping the client away from any health danger is also a support worker’s duty.

How to become a residential support worker?

Skills and qualities of a care worker

  • Communication skills: Without communication skills, you will be unable to fulfil the role of a care worker who stays in the residence. You have to stay with your clients for many hours and have to make them feel connected throughout the time, which is only possible with good communication skills.
  • Listening skills: listening skills means patience in hearing other people talking which is another great quality that every care worker should have.
  • Interpersonal skills: Interpersonal skills refer to many things, which include your ability to interact with people and beyond. Support workers must have these qualities and skills.  
  • Empathetic: Empathetic means feeling the pain of others, which is one of the key qualities of any care worker. Since they will be dealing with adults and kids, they have to be empathetic toward them to understand their pain, sorrow and beyond.
