The British former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, 36, has been injured in a car crash in Nigeria.

Joshua was a passenger sat in the back of a black Lexus when it hit a stationary truck, he suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, the police said that two people had died.

According to the Nigerian federal road safety corps (FRSC), said the accident happened on the Lago-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, some 30 miles from the city of Lagos.

The FRSC said it is suspected that the Lexus was “travelling beyond the legally prescribed limit,” it then “lost control” as it was overtaking prior to crashing into the truck.

Writing on X the FRSC said, “The primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.”

They said that five adult men were involved in the crash, adding, “Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt.

“Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.”
