Around 500 tonnes of waste at a recycling centre have gone up in flames and the public have been warned to keep their windows and door shut.

Some 70 firefighter and ten fire engines tackled the blaze on Nobel Road, Edmonton at 3.30am on Thursday morning.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said, “Approximately 500 tonnes of mixed waste, located in a single-storey enclosed bay, is currently alight.

The fire in #Edmonton is under control. Crews will remain on scene throughout the morning as further operations are carried out.

During the incident firefighters utilised a nearby water source to support operations as they responded.

“Residents in the local area are advised to keep doors and windows shut as crews respond. This is due to the amount of smoke being produced.

“Firefighters are using one of the Brigade’s 32m Ladders to attack the fire from above. The Brigade’s drone team has also been deployed to the incident, offering the Incident Commander an aerial view of the scene.

“Nobel Road is closed between Thornton Road and Kynoch Road, with traffic along the A1055 is likely to be impacted as we respond.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are responding to a fire at a waste facility on Nobel Road, #Edmonton.

Residents in the local area are advised to keep doors and windows closed as crews respond.

They added in an update, “Firefighters are continuing to make progress at the Edmonton fire. One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders has been deployed to attack the fire from above, and our Drone Team is being used to monitor the incident.”
