BYD to roll out 15,000 megawatt fast chargers across China in new partnership push

In your daily reminder that China is living in the year 3000 while most Americans still think EVs and hybrids are new technology nearly thirty years after the launch of GM’s EV1 and the original Toyota Prius, leading global plugin car brand BYD has announced fresh plans to deploy 15,000 megawatt charging stations across the nation.

BYD first announced its plan to deploy up to 10,000 megawatt chargers during its “Megawatt Charging: 10,000-Charger Co-Construction” ceremony, held at the same 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Auto Show that saw the official launch of the Huawei Maextro S800 last week.

Just days later, CNEVPost is reporting that the NEV leader has expanded those plans, announcing new partnerships with major Chinese charge point operators Xiaoju Charging and LongShine, who plan to open 10,000 units and 5,000 new MW-level DC fast chargers, respectively.

Xiaoju Charging is the infrastructure arm of ride-hailing giant Didi, and claims more than 8,400 “partner merchants” serving some 34 million EV drivers on its own, while LongShine has locations in over 400 Chinese cities.

CarNewsChina suggests that the push to deploy megawatt charging infrastructure is part of a broader BYD effort to support its recently released Han L and Tang L EVs, which the company claims are capable of adding up to 400 km of electric range (about 250 miles) in just 5 minutes, thanks to their new, proprietary, 1,000V/1,000A/1,000kW BYD battery system.

The market seems to be responding positively to the new, megawatt-capable Han and Tang EVs, too. In their first month on sale, BYD reportedly sold 10,483 Han L and 11,406 Tang L models, surpassing 40,000 total deliveries of just those two models.
