After teasing the new midsize electric sedan last month, BYD officially launched the Qin L EV on Monday. The company calls it “the most attractive choice for young people in the era of intelligent driving.”

Starting at just 119,800 yuan ($16,500), the Qin L EV is about half the cost of a Tesla Model 3, which starts at 235,500 yuan ($32,500) in China.

BYD’s new midsize electric sedan is 4,720 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,495 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. In comparison, the Model 3 is 4,720 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, and 1,442 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm in China.

Based on its new e-Platform 3.0 Evo, BYD claims the new electric sedan offers the lowest energy consumption in its class.

The Qin L features a refreshed interior design with BYD’s DiLink 100 smart cockpit, including 15.6″ floating infotainment, 12″ W-HUD (Heads Up Display), and 8.8″ driver display screens. It even has a built-in refrigerator that can heat (up to 50°C/ 122°F) and cool (as low as -6°C/ 21°F).

BYD’s “God’s Eye C” is equipped on all trims, providing smart driving functions like high-speed navigation on autopilot, remote-controlled parking, and more.

Five radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 12 cameras power the system. BYD plans to continue adding new functions and capabilities through OTA updates.
