BYD wants to attract a new generation of drivers with its new Qin L EV. The midsize electric sedan is aimed at younger buyers as the world’s largest EV maker expands into new markets. BYD dropped a teaser on Monday, giving us our first look at the new EV. Check it out below.

BYD is about to launch the new Qin L EV

The new midsize Qin L EV is “about to debut,” BYD posted on social media today. Last May, BYD launched the Qin L DM-i, a hybrid car based on its new fifth-generation DM (hybrid) technology.

BYD’s CEO, Wang Chuanfu, said the company’s latest platform enables fuel consumption as low as 2.9 liters per 100 km. After launching the Qin L and Seal 06 DM-i models last year, the first equipped with the new hybrid tech, the fully electric versions are now about to hit the market.

On Monday, we got our first look at the Qin L EV after BYD shared several teaser images of its “new mid-size pure electric sedan.”

At the bottom of each image, BYD said, “Only smart driving can bring you a sense of,” suggesting it will launch with its “Gods Eye” smart driving system.

Earlier this month, BYD launched 21 of its top-selling vehicles with the new smart driving tech at no extra charge.

General Manager of sales for BYD’s Dynasty series wrote in a separate post on Weibo (via CnEVPost) that the new midsize EV is aimed at younger buyers.

BYD said the new Qin L EV “is coming soon” but didn’t give a specific launch date. According to data from the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released last month, the new electric car is 4,720 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,495 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

To give you a comparison, that’s about the size of the new Tesla Model 3 in China: 4,720 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, 1,442 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm.
