Law firm Irwin Mitchell has relocated its offices in Sheffield, taking up 48,000 sq ft of space at Elshaw House, one of the newest buildings in the area and part of the Heart of the City development.

The company, which was founded in Sheffield in 1912, employs over 1,000 people in the city, covering various areas of law, including personal injury, medical negligence, family, employment, real estate and corporate services. The firm is currently based at Riverside East in the city.

The Heart of the City scheme is a city centre regeneration project that creates 1.5m sq ft of office, mixed-use, residential, retail and leisure space.

Jonathan Scarsbrook, regional lead partner for Irwin Mitchell in South Yorkshire, said: “We’ve been in Sheffield for more than 100 years and although we’ve now expanded to have 24 other offices nationwide, Sheffield is still our largest base of colleagues and will always be an important location for us.

“We have an exceptional team of lawyers in Sheffield advising our clients on their legal needs whether business or personal. We can’t wait for our colleagues to move into the new space in the Heart of the City. The city centre has undergone huge investment and improvement in recent years, and we are pleased to be able to play our part in that positive change.”

Councillor Ben Miskell, chair of the transport, regeneration and climate policy committee at Sheffield City Council, added: “There is no better example of how our incredible Heart of the City development has been received than when it comes to the office space we have had on offer. Businesses have been flocking to take a look at the high-quality buildings, and it is no surprise that we are now very close to full capacity.

“The addition of Irwin Mitchell to the project brings yet another major Sheffield business to Heart of the City. The firm has been serving the people of Sheffield for 114 years and will continue to do so for many years to come from our brilliant Elshaw House building. ”

Irwin Mitchell was advised by JLL on the deal.
