A major incident has been declared in Derby as two men have been arrested for “explosives offences” which has caused 200 homes to evacuated as a “precaution.”
Derbyshire Police searched a property following intelligence over explosive materials and a man in his 40s and another in his 50s have are being held in custody.
The police have reassured the public there is no threat or risk to the public, this is not being treated as terrorism.
The British Army’s explosive ordnance division told locals that they “may hear a bang” as part of a controlled explosion.
A Derbyshire Police spokesman said, “The force is working closely with colleagues from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Derby City Council.
The evacuations are a precaution to ensure the safety of those in the area.
