In Hampshire and the Isle of White a major incident has been declared as there it’s expected local services will be under pressure.
Local fire service warned there is a “potential risk to life” with trees falling, flooding and damage to buildings.
More than 8,500 homes in Cornwall are without power and hundreds of schools have closed in the south as Storm Ciaran could put them at risk.

An amber warning is in place from 6am to 5pm on Thursday across the south coast with winds expected to hit 70mph to 80mph.
The Met Office said that Jersey airport has seen winds of up to 93mph on Thursday morning and Jersey police said 35 people have been moved to hotel accommodation with three in hospital due to storm damage to their homes.

Jersey Police said that wind speeds reached 102mph and the Met Office has issued a danger to life red wind warning.
