According to an expert Ukraine’s counteroffensive has failed in making any major breakthroughs and the “prospects of success look dim.”
Ukrainian forces are “running short” due to some the most intense battles being fought and so far more than 325,000 Russian troops have been killed.
The war is fast approaching its third year and Ukraine are equally losing thousands of troops in the fight against Vladimir Putin.

Michael Kofman, a senior fellow at the Washington-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, warned that the “advantages in 2024” are on Russia’s side.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Kofman said, “The material advantages in 2024 are principally on Russia’s side, but they don’t appear decisive enough that Russia will be able to achieve its political aims.
“It’s inaccurate to suggest that Russia is winning the war.
“However, if the right choices are not made next year on Ukraine’s approach and Western resourcing, then Ukraine’s prospects for success look dim.”
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny wrote in a recent report, “The prolonged nature of the war, limited opportunities for the rotation of soldiers on the line of contact, gaps in legislation that seem to legally evade mobilisation, significantly reduce the motivation of citizens to serve with the military.”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed that a comprehensive mobilisation plan be put in place.
Zaluzhny, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal are to prepare a report for Zelesnky.
President Zelensky said, “You know how complex the issues of mobilization are and very relevant: Territorial Recruiting Centers, military medical commissions, mobilization, demobilization.
“A complex task has been set.
“Today there was a comprehensive report on how to solve this issue, what to do, what legislative changes [are needed], who should do this – this whole plan will be worked out and all the answers will be provided.
“Next week I will see this plan,” he said at a press conference with the President of Latvia in Kyiv.
Zelensky insisted that he would like “people to understand the whole plan of action, where we are going, what the challenges are, so that people can see all this.
“In mobilization, it is very important that we leave point A and understand where we are going – to point B.
“We must know where we must go and with what forces. Therefore, a comprehensive plan on this issue will be next week.
“At least, this task has been assigned to Zaluzhny, Umerov, and Shmyhal, because there are also economic issues. They will all report comprehensively next week.”
