It raises hope about the season ahead, particularly after a disappointing opener at Leicester in which they wasted a number of chances before drawing 1-1.

Thrashed at St James’ Park last season, Spurs could make a statement by inflicting some revenge on Eddie Howe’s side, who edged past newly-promoted Southampton with 10 men before a controversial draw at Bournemouth was followed by a penalty shootout win at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Newcastle vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 1.30pm BST kick-off time on Sunday September 1, 2024.

St James’ Park in Newcastle will host the match.

Newcastle vs Tottenham team news

Newcastle will be without Joe Willock after he came off during their Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Callum Wilson is injured, although Sandro Tonali is available after making his return in midweek following a 10-month ban due to betting breaches.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley and Martin Dubravka are also sidelined, while Fabian Schar is suspended. Matt Targett is now fit again.

Spurs will be without injured strikers Dominic Solanke and Richarlison on Tyneside, though Rodrigo Bentancur is back fit after concussion and Micky van de Ven expected to be fine after jarring his knee against Everton.
