The NX8 makes the Rogue look outdated. Nissan’s new electric SUV is bigger than the Rogue and features some of the most advanced tech in its lineup. Within 30 minutes of launching, it booked close to 8,500 orders.

Nissan reveals new NX8 electric SUV in China

Nissan’s joint venture in China, Dongfeng Nissan, opened pre-orders for the new NX8 this week, a mid- to large-sized electric SUV.

At 4,870 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,917 mm, the NX8 overshadows the Rogue and Ariya SUVs.

It’s also way more advanced than likely any Nissan vehicle to date. The NX8 is Nissan’s first SUV and second EV based on Dongfeng’s platforms that include electric drive, vehicle control units, and intelligent in-vehicle systems.

The NX8 is built on the Tianyan Architecture 2.0, an 800V platform that supports 5C ultra-fast charging. It’s available with fully electric (EV) or extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains.

The EV version is powered by a new 81 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, delivering a CLTC range of up to 650 km (404 miles). It’s equipped with a single electric motor, providing either 288 hp (215 kW) or 335 hp (250 kW).

With charging speeds of up to 463 kW, Nissan’s electric SUV can recharge from 10% to 80% in as little as 12 minutes.

Meanwhile, the EREV version uses a smaller LFP battery, a single 335 hp (250 kW) electric motor, and a 1.5T gas engine, offering up to 192 miles (310 km) pure electric CLTC range. Combined, it offers up to 900 miles (1,450 km).

The interior features a new minimalist setup with a dual 15.6″ infotainment screen, a separate 10.25″ driver cluster, and a massive 62″ AR head-up display (HUD).

Nissan’s electric SUV is also equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR and 29 sensors, enabling smart driving features like Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) on both city and highway roads, as well as full-scenario intelligent parking assistance.

The NX8 is available in three EV trims and three EREV grades, with limited-time prices ranging from 149,900 yuan ($22,000) to 209,900 yuan ($30,800).

After launching the battery electric (EV) NX8 models on April 8, Dongfeng Nissan said the new electric SUV secured 8,423 orders within 30 minutes. Deliveries of the EREV variant are scheduled to begin in May.

Like the N7, its first EV introduced with Dongfeng, Nissan will likely export the electric SUV to overseas markets like Europe, Thailand, Australia, and other parts of Southeast Asia.
