The US has warned North Korean troops are gaining battlefield experience and Pyongyang is “benefiting” as they are gaining “Russian military equipment” which will enable them to wage “war against their neighbours.”
The deputy US ambassador Dorothy Camille Shea told the UN Security Council that North Korea are now more capable to wage war against South Korea and Japan, The Independent reports.
On Monday North Korea launched an intermediate range hypersonic ballistic missile and they are “significantly benefiting” from their 12,000 troops fighting alongside Russian forces against Ukraine.
Shea said, North Korea “is significantly benefiting from receiving Russian military equipment, technology and experience, rendering it more capable of waging war against its neighbours.”

She added, “In turn, the DPRK will likely be eager to leverage these improvements to promote weapons sales and military training contracts globally.”
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has seen more than 1,000 troops killed or wounded in the Kursk region and on Saturday President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that two “wounded” North Korean troops have been captured and are being held in Kyiv.
Zelensky said, “Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region. Two soldiers, though wounded, survived and were transported to Kyiv, where they are now communicating with the Security Service of Ukraine.”
Zelensky added that normally Russian or North Korean soldiers “execute” the Pyongyang wounded to erase any evidence that they are fighting against Ukrainian forces for Vladimir Putin.
He added, “As with all prisoners of war, these two North Korean soldiers are receiving the necessary medical assistance,” adding that journalists will be granted access to these prisoners of war.
“The world needs to know the truth about what is happening.”
“The prisoners do not speak Ukrainian, English or Russian, so communication with them takes place through Korean translators in cooperation with South Korean intelligence,” a statement said.
South Korea’s UN ambassador, Joonkook Hwang, told the council that North Korean soldiers are “essentially slaves to Kim Jong Un, brainwashed to sacrifice their lives on faraway battlefields to raise money for his regime and secure advanced military technology from Russia.”
