Pre-season continues for the Gunners today with their first official friendly of the summer. Mikel Arteta has overseen his squad in the German town of Herzogenaurach this week and will now put them through their paces against 2. Bundesliga side Nurnberg.
Arsenal fans can expect to see Kai Havertz make his debut from the bench this evening although the game comes too soon for the still to-be-confirmed new signings Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. Arteta has taken a 30-man squad to Germany so expect plenty of rotation throughout the game as players look to impress and get valuables minutes under their belts.
The previously injured William Saliba does feature after returning to training after a number of late calls were made on the inclusion of the Gunners’ internationals, among which are Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. Follow Nurnberg vs Arsenal LIVE via Standard Sport’s matchday blog!

Lots of pressure on Thomas Partey
He’s not usually one to feel the heat but Thomas Partey has a big job on in this game.
The Ghanaian will be the sole anchor man of a midfield featuring Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard, who are hardly the most defensive-minded players.
Furthermore, Mikel Arteta is understood to be happy to sell Partey if a better alternative is available on the market.
So, no pressure…
A lot for Mikel Arteta to keep an eye on tonight
The dynamic of Jakub Kiwior slotting in at left-back will be one to watch, given he is the de facto second-choice in the position until either a new signing is made or Takehiro Tomiyasu proves his fitness.
Otherwise it’s a first-choice defence for Arsenal with William Saliba and Gabriel reunited in front of Aaron Ramsdale, and Ben White on the right.

Throwback: A debut to remember

Can Kai Havertz repeat the trick off the bench tonight? Kick-off in 20 minutes…
