Revel, the EV charging company known for its high-speed chargers in and around New York City, started its West Coast expansion today with 12 320kW chargers in San Francisco, and more to come soon.

Here at Electrek we’ve written about Revel many times. The company has attracted a lot of attention from EV fans due to its focus on installing high quality charging stations in dense areas that are often underserved by charging points and where residents might not have access to off-street parking/home charging.

In these situations, 24/7 reliable charging with very fast charging speeds is a must.

You also may remember that Revel hired a lot of Tesla’s Supercharger team, after Tesla CEO Elon Musk stupidly fired them.

Revel started in the US’ densest city, New York, and now it’s expanding to another of its most densely populated cities – and certainly one of the densest in terms of EV adoption: San Francisco.

The new station is in San Francisco’s Mission District, at 199 Erie Street – right next to the 101 freeway. The ribbon cutting happened this morning, attended by San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie.

It includes 12 charging stalls with Kempower chargers, each capable of delivering 320kW of power. That’s quite a lot of juice, especially given a lot of cars can’t even handle half of that.

The chargers are an even 50/50 split of CCS and NACS heads, just like Revel’s downtown NYC station. But all are open to EVs of any make, assuming the driver has the proper adapters.

This is just the first step of Revel’s planned expansion into the Bay Area. The company says that it will install 125 chargers in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and South San Francisco over the next year. It currently operates 100 chargers in total.
