Peace talks is ‘getting there’ as Ukraine discussed potential ceasefire with US delegation in Saudi Arabia – London Business News | London Wallet

The Ukrainian and American delegations have met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and discussed a potential air and sea ceasefire along with the minerals deal for their first round of peace talks.

The outcome of the meeting will, potentially shape the US President’s support or not for Ukraine in Kyiv’s efforts to end Russia’s war.

An official told Suspline media outlet that the US has said a ceasefire at sea, in the sky and no more long-range attacks in Ukraine will be “easy to install and monitor.”

CNN reported that the US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz was asked how the meeting in Jeddah went, he said, “Getting there.”

The former Russian Foreign Minister, Andrei Kozyrev who is the outspoken critic of Moscow and served under Boris Yeltsin said that everyone in the “free and brave world” must give Ukraine support “in any way possible.”

He wrote on X, “Ukrainian resolve to stand for freedom is miraculous.

“Everyone in the free and brave world must support them in any way possible. Shame on the so-called ‘realists’ who bow to Putin’s Russia,” which could be a dig as the US President.

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Russian news agency Interfax on Tuesday that Moscow is expecting to hear from Washington over the progress of the US-Ukraine talks in Jeddah.

Peskov said, “Today, there will be U.S.-Ukraine contacts in Jeddah. Somehow, the American side, which is looking for ways to reach a peaceful settlement, will inform us.”

On Monday the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “I mean, right now we’re really in listening mode.

“We may have suggestions if they ask, but we really want to sort of ascertain where they stand on this and what they’re willing to do in order to achieve peace.”

“It may be incompatible with what the Russians are willing to do.  That’s what we need to find out.  But we’re not going to find out on X, we’re not going to find out on media press conferences. We have to find out in rooms that are closed that you guys can’t be in, but you’ll know the end of it,” Rubio added.
