The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that if Vladimir Putin is not stopped the conflict in Ukraine “could escalate into a world war.”

President Zelensky told CBS media outlet that “if we do not stand firm, he [Putin] will advance further.

“It is not just idle speculation; the threat is real. Putin’s ultimate goal is to revive the Russian empire and reclaim territories currently under NATO protection. Considering all of this, I believe it could escalate into a world war.”

He added, “There won’t be a safe place, there won’t be a safe place for (anyone).”

NATO has also voiced similar concerns, and the Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte previously warned that if Russia attacks the alliance Putin will be met with “devastating” consequences, the Kyiv Independent reported.

Rutte said on 12 February, “If Putin attacks NATO, the reaction will be devastating. He will lose.”

President Zelensky told CBS 60 Minutes that he is urging President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine so he can fully understand the situation on the ground.

He said, “Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead.”

If Trump visits Ukraine, he “will understand what Putin did.”

“You will understand with whom you have a deal,” Zelensky added.

If Trump cones to Ukraine “we will not prepare anything. It will not be theatre.

“You can go exactly where you want, in any city which (has) been under attacks.”

Zelensky said, “Putin can’t be trusted. I told that to President Trump many times. So when you ask why the ceasefire isn’t working, this is why,” Zelensky said.

“Putin never wanted an end to the war. Putin never wanted us to be independent. Putin wants to destroy us completely, our sovereignty and our people.”
