A Russian who is freely living in the UK who has Kremlin “intelligence service connections” should not be allowed to remain in Britain.

The alleged Russian spy was given refugee status in February 2022 at the time the British government was facing “inexplicable pressure” to clear applications as quickly as possible when Boris Johnson was the Prime Minister.

The Russian has been under a four year investigation by US agencies over allegations or “cyber threats, domestic terrorism and malign foreign influence” which has caused fury within the FBI.

FBI officials have demanded that the British government provide an explanation as to why the Russian is being allowed to live in the UK despite having connections in the highest ranks within Moscow.

One security source said, the alleged agent, “shouldn’t be a free man. He has Russian intelligence service connections.”

Authorities in Kyiv have said the person is Ukrainian national, but said he has worked for Russia’s spy agency, the FSB and there is a secret stash of leaked intelligence documents.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s economic crime bureau said he is under a “complete suspension of transit of resources, flights and transportation through the territory of Ukraine.”

US federal agents launched a probe over suspicions of being a Russian agent and has been indicted for money laundering and evading sanctions, according to US officials.

US officials also say that the Russia is thought to be a middle man for two Ukrainian businessmen who are both under sanctions for “significant corruption.”

An FBI officer, who is part of the force’s kleptocrat team, said this “rubbed salt in the wound” upon hearing the news of his comfortable London life, saying he “shouldn’t be a free man.”

A source told the i newspaper, “He has been written about in numerous intelligence reports and is considered a threat to Ukraine and the US and implicated in money laundering on behalf of sanctioned entities, engagement in transnational criminal activities and attempted influence over US politicians.”

The Russian was provided with a UK investment visa under condition he holds at least £2 million in a account, then in 2017 he was issued with a visa allowing him with indefinite leave to remain in Britain.

The Russian said that after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, “in order to ensure the safety of my children, as well as organise the delivery of humanitarian and logistical assistance to the Ukrainian defence forces in Ukraine I left Ukraine.”

The Russian has clearly stated, “There is nothing to comment on, because it is not true.”
