Toyota isn’t the only one releasing a three-row electric SUV in 2026. Subaru confirmed the new EV will arrive in showrooms later this year, and we already have a good idea of what to expect.

When is Subaru launching its three-row EV SUV?

Toyota and Subaru suddenly have a full lineup of all-electric SUVs. After launching their first EVs in 2022, the bZ4X and Solterra, the Japanese automakers are preparing for a new wave of electric SUVs.

The Solterra is built by Toyota in Japan using the e-TNGA platform, the same one that underpins the former bZ4X.

Subaru’s new electric SUVs, the 2026 Uncharted and Trailseeker, are also based on the e-TNGA platform and are near replicas of the 2026 Toyota C-HR and bZ Woodland.

Later this year, Subaru and Toyota’s first three-row electric SUVs will begin arriving at dealerships. Subaru America’s chief operating officer, Jeff Walters, confirmed the news, telling Automotive News that the “yet-to-be-revealed three-row EV” will hit showrooms in 2026.

While the company has yet to reveal any information on it, it will be built at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky facility, starting later this year alongside the Highlander EV.

Toyota unveiled the 2027 Highlander BEV this week, its first electric three-row SUV. The battery packs will be supplied from Toyota’s new $13.9 billion assembly plant in Liberty, North Carolina.

Like the Highlander EV, Subaru’s three-row electric SUV will likely be available with two battery packs: 77 kWh or 95.8 kWh, providing driving ranges of up to 287 miles and 320 miles, respectively.

Toyota’s electric Highlander will be offered with all-wheel- and front-wheel-drive powertrains. Like its other electric SUVs, Subaru’s SUV will likely be equipped with its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as standard.

The Highlander is based on a modified version of Toyota’s Next Generation Architecture-K (TNGA-K) platform, specifically designed to maximize interior space and efficiency in the larger SUV.

At 198.8″ long, 78.3″ wide, and 67.3″ tall, the Highlander EV (interior pictured above) is about the size of the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9.

Starting in 2026, all Toyota and Subaru EVs in the US feature an NACS charging port for recharging at Tesla Superchargers. According to Toyota, its three-row electric SUV can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The 2027 Toyota Highlander and Subaru’s yet-to-be-revealed three-row electric SUV will go on sale later this year. Prices will be announced closer to launch, but the new electric SUVs are expected to start at around $50,000 to $55,000.
