The Prime Minister has issued the Metropolitan Police chief with a stark warning on Wednesday and has slammed thugs for an attack on a war memorial.

Sir Mark Rowley has been warned that he will be held to account after he said he cannot ban the pro-Palestinian marches on the weekend.

Sir Mark who has been called “weak” by some MPs and has been called “pathetic” said the law “provides no mechanism to ban a gathering, a static protest.”

Speaking to broadcasters, Sunak said, “This is a decision that the Metropolitan Police Commissioner has made. He has said that he can ensure we safeguard remembrance for the country this weekend as well as keep the public safe.”

The Prime Minister added, “My job is to hold him accountable for that.

“I have asked the police for information on how they will ensure this happens. I will be meeting the Metropolitan Police Commissioner later today to discuss this.

“My view is these marches are disrespectful.”

Sunak said, “This weekend will be about the country coming together to pay tribute and recognise the sacrifice of so many over so many years.

“That’s what I’ll be doing, and it’s what the vast majority of the country will be doing this weekend: marking that moment with the dignity and respect that it deserves.”

On Tuesday a war memorial was damaged and last night Rochdale Council said the graffiti attack was “totally unacceptable and is being investigated by police.”

They have pledged the graffiti would be “removed as soon as we are able to.”

Tory MP Jonathan Gullis asked, “What has the UK come to?”

“It is disgusting to see what vermin have done to a sacred memorial remembering our fallen heroes.

“It’s why James Sunderland MP and I introduced the Desecration of War Memorials Bill, which became law last year.

“The police must lock these scum up!”

The Metropolitan Police chief has been called “a coward” who is hiding “behind every excuse” to ban the pro-Palestinian million strong march which will coincide with Remembrance Day.

There are calls for the Met Police chief to be removed from his position as he is refusing to use the emergency powers in place to ban what has been dubbed the “hate march.”

English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson has called on football hooligans and British men to mobilise to be in London in a call to arms on Remembrance Day and there are fears London will descend into “carnage.”

The Democratic Football Lads Alliance have also issued a call to arms who are a right-wing organisation who use football fan networks which spread Islamophobic hate.

Robinson said, “British men are mobilising for Saturday to be in London” to “show our Government and show our police and show Hamas and everyone sitting around the world saying ‘Britain has fallen’ that there is a resistance.”

A post on the group’s Facebook page said, “Vets have reached out and asked for our support due to the threat from the far-left and pro-Palestinian supporters to disrupt the Remembrance Day parade.

“We are calling on all football lads up and down the country to join us in standing shoulder to shoulder with our veterans that fought for our freedom.”

Reform UK leader Richard Tice said: “If all kicks off at the weekend Rowley must resign Monday morning or be fired.”

Sir Mark insists “the threshold has not been reached” to ban the pro-Palestinian march.

He said, “The Remembrance events will not be disturbed. Whatever events and protests go on we will do our upmost to protect those because they are so critical.

“People shouldn’t be in fear that those are going to be compromised, we will do everything possible to make sure they are not.”
