Arsenal have already spent over £200million this summer but are already plotting another bid move. Ajax’s £40m-rated midfielder Mohammed Kudus s a long-time target and this summer could be the time to make a move, with Thomas Partey potentially moving to Saudi Arabia. Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Bitello of Gremio are other options, but Mikel Arteta will have to sell before he can buy any more.
Chelsea, meanwhile, want to sign Moises Caicedo and will launch a third bid after seeing their latest proposal to Brighton rejected. They are unwilling to go above £80m for the youngster, but have seen a £70m offer dismissed. Talks with Montpellier for forward Elye Wahi are progressing. Meanwhile, Manchester United have announced the signing of Jonny Evans on a short-term contract, so he can take part in their pre-season friendlies. Andre Onana will undergo a medical today and a big bid for Rasmus Hojlund is soon expected.
Tottenham have already secured three new signings and are closing in on a fourth with the addition of Blackburn centre-back Ashley Phillips. Spurs are expected to still be in the market for a more experienced defender and could be forced into the market for a new striker, should Bayern Munich sign Harry Kane. Ten Hag explains Evans deal
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained why Jonny Evans has joined the club on a short-term deal.
Evans is in the 24-man squad that travelled to Edinburgh for today’s pre-season friendly against Lyon, and starts on the bench.
Ten Hag told MUTV: “I have known him for a long time and I know that his place is Manchester. He came to train with us to work on his fitness and I said to him that not all the players are in – the internationals are out, still having their break.
“I thought it was a good idea to help each other out. Jonny can work on his fitness and he can help us out.
“We know he’s a really experienced player, but also a very good person with a big personality and authority. He can help the young players, especially. It benefits both sides.”
