Lucy Thompson

Tributes have been paid to Lucy Thompson, founder of Reality Estate Agents, who died at 44.

Thompson, well-known in Norwich, lost her battle with cancer last month. She will be remembered by friends and family as they take on an event planned before she passed away.

The estate agent was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2018 and, after being given the all-clear, she married Adam Thompson at Norwich Cathedral in July 2019.

Her sister Hayley Calis, 38, said: “During Covid she started getting more symptoms. In May 2020 she was diagnosed again and this time the cancer had gone to her liver.

“She was no longer well enough to work so she wanted to focus on being positive and that is when she really got involved with the Big C.”

In March 2021, Thompson took on a spinning challenge with her friends and raised a few thousand, then a few months later they took on a 25km Broads walk challenge which raised more than £5,000.

She also took on a skydive and was later given an award from the Big C in March 2022 for all that she had done.

Calis said: “She put her focus into helping other people, she was really an incredible person who never showed any fear or sadness.

“She was positive the whole way through, it was so unfair, but she was my hero.”

Thompson, who lived in Mulbarton, died on June 19 at the age of 44. Her funeral took place on July 5 in Colney Woods.

Calois added: “My sister was a real horse person, and her friend brought Lucy’s horse down. Ernie stood outside and watched everyone come in.

“I knew Lucy was popular, but I had not realised just how popular. People could not get in and had to stand outside.”

The family also took great comfort in knowing Lucy had planned the entire day herself even down to the music including the song that meant a lot to her: Roar by Katy Perry.

During an upcoming fire walk in Norwich, Lucy’s nephews Ediz and Charlie will be sporting Roar t-shirts in memory of the auntie they adored and those closest to her have also got roar tattoos.

“We want to make sure we complete the challenge in her memory,” added Calis.

“I live in Turkey and came back in June when I heard Lucy was really unwell and that it wasn’t looking good.

“Two and a half weeks after I got here, we lost her. It was quick for her, and that was nice because she wasn’t suffering, but it was such a big shock for all of us, it’s been hard.

“Doing these things makes it feel like she is still with us.”

The fire walk will take place on Sunday 6 August 6 in Castle Quarter Gardens from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, sponsored by Yellow Brick Mortgages in aid of the Big C.

There are still places available to take part in the walk itself for anybody who wants the challenge.

Those interested should visit Big-C.co.uk and head to the events page to book their place.

And for those wanting to donate to friends and family taking the challenge, they can do so by searching for Lucy Thompson on justgiving.com.
