Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, accusing him of a sluggish response to the escalating crisis in Iran, which has raised concerns about regional stability.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, the former US president noted that the UK government is considering deploying two aircraft carriers to the Middle East—specifically, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.

However, he expressed scepticism, suggesting that such a move would be insufficient and arrive too late to make a meaningful impact on the rapidly changing situation.

Trump articulated his belief that the United States requires allies who are willing to engage in military conflicts proactively rather than waiting until a clear victory is apparent.

The US President said: “We don’t need people joining wars after we’ve already won,” thereby taking a direct jab at Britain’s current approach in the unfolding crisis.

He added: “It’s not the right time. It would have been nice to have them two weeks ago.”

According to defence sources, HMS Prince of Wales (R09), one of the Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carriers, has reached an advanced state of readiness and can depart from Portsmouth within five days if a military order is given.

This readiness underscores the urgency of the situation and highlights the potential for increased British military involvement.

The backdrop of this political tension includes a surge in military activity across the region, which has escalated following targeted strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian positions over the past weekend.

Notably, US bomber aircraft were observed landing in the UK on Saturday, indicating that Washington is increasingly utilising British military bases for what officials have described as “specific defensive operations” amidst rising threats in the area.

On Saturday, Trump posted online: “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East.

That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer – But we will remember.

Adding to the urgency, Sir Keir Starmer has faced heightened scrutiny regarding the British government’s response to the crisis after a recent drone attack targeted RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.

This British airbase serves as a critical hub for military operations in both the eastern Mediterranean and the broader Middle East.

The attempted strike earlier in the week has heightened concerns about the speed and scale of Britain’s military response, prompting discussions of the need for a more robust strategy to address the evolving dynamics in the region.
