President Donald Trump has issued one of his most dramatic warnings yet regarding the escalating conflict with Iran, declaring that “a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Tehran does not meet his deadline to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.
This message, posted on his Truth Social platform, came as the deadline—set for 8 PM Eastern Time (1 AM UK time)—approached.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow chokepoint through which approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil passes. It has been effectively closed amid the broader US-Israel conflict with Iran, triggering heightened geopolitical and economic anxiety.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?
We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

Trump’s warning, delivered in apocalyptic terms, seems intended to pressure Tehran to restore unimpeded maritime traffic.
According to reports, Trump has threatened to target critical Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if the strait is not reopened.
In one post, he remarked that “the entire country can be taken out in one night” to achieve this goal. Iran’s rejection of a proposed ceasefire plan and its hardline responses have further fuelled tensions.
The conflict has already resulted in reported strikes on Iranian oil and petrochemical facilities, and experts warn that attacking civilian infrastructure could violate international law, raising serious legal and ethical concerns.

On Sunday Trump wrote on social media: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the f***ing Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
Trump’s announcement came after an earlier ultimatum he issued to Tehran, giving it 48 hours to reach a deal or face the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This vital global shipping route has been mostly blocked since the start of the conflict.
He wrote: “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. [sic] Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
