Ukrainian drone swarms have launched a series of coordinated attacks on the Moscow region for the second consecutive day, causing significant disruption in the area.

According to authorities, multiple drone alerts have caused significant disruptions to air travel, prompting several major airports to suspend flights due to concerns about potential further strikes temporarily.

The impact of these attacks extends beyond air travel; reports indicate that mobile phone networks across the region have experienced outages, complicating communication for residents and travellers alike.

Moreover, numerous Russian Telegram channels have circulated information suggesting that some landline services may also be partially disrupted. However, local officials have yet to confirm the breadth and specifics of these communication outages fully.

These drone strikes are part of a broader and escalating long-range campaign by Ukraine, targeting key infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.

The intent appears to be twofold: to disrupt critical services and to send a clear message that even Moscow—historically viewed as a bastion of security—is within the range of Ukrainian military capabilities.

In response to these threats, Russian air defence systems have been activated in and around the capital as officials endeavour to intercept the incoming drones.

The sustained nature of these attacks underscores growing sophistication in Ukraine’s military strategy, indicating a significant capacity to strike strategic targets far from the front lines of the ongoing conflict. This escalation further emphasises the intensifying stakes in the war between Ukraine and Russia, as both sides continue to adapt and respond to each other’s tactics.

On Sunday, Moscow experienced the largest drone assault the city has faced in 2026, with attacks continuing for over 24 hours, authorities confirmed.

Multiple airports in and around the capital were closed on Sunday as a precaution due to concerns that further strikes could disrupt both civilian and military operations.

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that four drones were shot down; however, the strikes have already caused flight disruptions and chaos throughout the capital.
