United Nation nuclear chief has warned that Ukraine is “living on borrowed time” because Russia has placed landmines around Europe’s largest nuclear power station.

Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned of “severe consequences for human health and the environment” as there is constant shelling and a landmine exploded near the power unit of the nuclear facility.

Grossi has given a chilling warning that “our luck will run out sooner or later” and if it does it will be catastrophic for Europe.

Energoatom who produce power for Ukraine said that on Thursday a “Russian mine exploded near the control room of the fourth power unit at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.”

This is second incident in four days but over the past 12 months there has been far too many to report on and this continued activity is a real threat “nuclear safety and security” across Europe.

Grossi, the IAEA director general, warned, “We are living on borrowed time when it comes to nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

“Unless we take action to protect the plant, our luck will sooner or later run out, with potentially severe consequences for human health and the environment.”

Energoatom said in a statement, “Europe’s largest nuclear facility continues to suffer from the arbitrariness of the Russian military and their henchmen, while Ukrainian personnel are desperately trying to maintain the nuclear and radiation safety of the entire continent.”
