Vermeer soft-launches new line of electric tree care equipment

The equipment experts at Vermeer are jumping into the electric landscaping and forestry markets with both feet following the limited launch of three all-new, all-electric equipment options for the US and European markets.

In a move that.brings the company a bit more “down to Earth,” Vermeer has announced the limited release of three machines for the North American market. The BX1000XL electric brush chipper (below, at center), the SC30TX electric stump cutter (at left), and the S450TX electric mini skid steer (at right).

“This lineup is a critical step in our electrification journey,” explains Josh Vrieze, a senior product manager for Vermeer. “By working directly with tree care professionals in the field, we can better understand the real-world performance of these machines and refine them to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s jobsites.”

Initially, the company will make its new electric machines available to select Vermeer dealers customers as part of a strategic field validation/pilot program intended to gain direct customer feedback on the real-world performance of these BEVs in real-world applications. The resulting feedback will help guide the company’s future electric vehicle development and drive product refinement.

Vermeer has not released battery, drive motor, or charging specs – but, for reference, the S450TX diesel mini-loader that the electric version is based on ships with a 24.8 hp Kubota D902 engine, and the company claims performance will be at least equal to that.
