Alan Gordon Ebbage

A well-known Norwich businessman and estate agent, Alan Gordon Ebbage, has died aged 103.

From the late 1950s to the mid-1980s, Ebbage was one of the city’s most prominent property figures, known for his entrepreneurial approach and innovative marketing.

Born in Norwich in 1922, he left school at 14 to work as an office boy before serving in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, stationed in North Africa and Italy.

After qualifying as a Fellow of The Auctioneers and Landed Property Agents, he launched his own business from his parents’ home in 1950 before forming Potter and Ebbage, and later establishing A G Ebbage in 1958. His firm expanded rapidly across Norfolk, employing more than 100 people at its peak, with branches in Norwich, Wymondham, Wroxham and Martham.

Ebbage was also a past president of the Strangers’ Club and a member of the Norwich Angling Club.

He was married to Janet Mary Ebbage for 68 years until her death in 2019. He is survived by four daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Alan Ebbage died on 20 Octoberat St John’s Care Home, Norwich.

His funeral will take place at St Margaret’s Church, Drayton, at 1pm on Friday, November 14. All are welcome to attend, but please email Allcock Funerals to attend at info@allcockfunerals.co.uk.
