Developer Wendover has acquired Washington House, a six-storey former members’ club building in Mayfair, central London, from Cola Holdings for over £70m.

The building on Conduit Street, just off New Bond Street, was constructed in the 1920s and was previously used as a private members’ club known as The Conduit.

The building has planning consent for around 40,000 sq ft of grade-A office space and also benefits from alternative use consents for a boutique hotel or members’ club. There is also the potential to add a seventh floor and private terrace.

“Washington House represents a rare opportunity to acquire a Mayfair freehold with both scale and flexibility,” said Lara Ajlouny, Wendover partner and director of development.

“Conduit Street remains a core West End location with sustained occupier demand and limited supply of high-quality workspace. We see strong potential to deliver a scheme that is both commercially robust and architecturally sensitive to its context.”

Washington House was previously marketed six years ago as part of a wider £1bn hotel and retail portfolio owned by Cola Holdings, the property investment vehicle of the Cola family.
