his weekend marks the 175th running of the world’s most famous horse race: the Grand National at Aintree.
Twelve months ago, the steeplechase delivered a fairytale send-off for jockey Sam Waley-Cohen, who partnered 50/1 outsider Noble Yates to a memorable victory at the Liverpool track on the final ride of his career.
The same horse returns looking to defend his crown, but meets a field of classy rivals headed by the Lucinda Russell-trained Corach Rambler, the antepost favourite coming in fresh from a second successive victory Cheltenham Festival victory last month.
Last year’s runner-up Any Second Now is also back for another tilt, while trainer Gordon Elliott – winner of the 2018 and 2019 renewals with Tiger Roll – looks to have another strong hand, led by another Cheltenham winner in Delta Work.
