The US and UK have been warned by Iranian backed Houthis militants that there will be “consequences” following airstrikes on military sites in Yemen overnight.
The US has told the Houthis militants that there will be “additional strikes” on Iranian backed groups to send a clear message that America “will respond” when their forces are attacked and killed.
Spokesman for the Houthi forces Yahya Saree said the airstrikes “will not pass without a response and consequences.”
He added, “These attacks will not deter us from our moral, religious and humanitarian stance in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
White House security adviser Jake Sullivan said, “We intend to take additional strikes, and additional action, to continue to send a clear message that the United States will respond when our forces are attacked, when our people are killed.”
Foreign secretary, Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, said: “We have issued repeated warnings to the Houthis.
“Their reckless actions are putting innocent lives at risk, threatening the freedom of navigation and destabilising the region. The Houthi attacks must stop.”
On Saturday the US launched airstrikes on 85 targets in Iraq and Syria which killed 16 people, this has left the Middle East “on the brink of the abyss.”
The attacks are in response to three US service personnel who were killed at Tower 22 military airbase in Iraq.
The Iraqi government slammed the US for not telling them about the proposed attacks and accused America in a statement of “disavowing legal responsibility” and “misleading international public opinion,” which were also “against the sovereignty of Iraq.”
The statement added, “This aggressive strike will put security in Iraq and the region on the brink of the abyss, and it also contradicts efforts to establish the required stability.
“Iraq reiterates its refusal to let its lands be an arena for settling scores, and all parties must realize this. Our country’s land and sovereignty are not the appropriate place to send messages and show force between opponents.
“The Iraqi government will make every effort required by moral, national, and constitutional responsibility to protect our land, our cities, and the lives of our children in all types of armed forces.”
