A top Russian General who is known to have close ties with the former Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Progzhin has been missing since the rebellion started on Saturday.

Sergei “Armageddon” Surovikin who is the second in command of the Russian Army reportedly knew about Prigozhin’s plans to hold a rebellion against Vladimir Putin and his regime, and US intelligence new about this, the New York Times reported.

During a press conference, Putin’s spokesman told reporters after being asked about the newspapers claims, he said, “There will now be a lot of speculation, gossip and so on around these events. I think this is one such example.”

However, Russian Telegram channel Rybar has suggested General Surovikin is being held by the authorities and he is under going interrogation.

They reported, “Surovikin has not been seen since Saturday – it is not known for certain where General Armageddon is located. There is a version that he is under interrogation.”

Defence and security analyst Michael Clarke told Sky News, “We said yesterday keep an eye on him because he must be having a fairly difficult time.

“What happens to this man will be very interesting. He hasn’t appeared since he made a statement on Saturday urging the Wagner people to go back to the units and behave themselves.”
